The Japanese Tragedy

The tragedy in Japan was caused by a big earthquake and subsequent tsunami, on last march. The magnitude of this event was of 9.0 Mw (Richter scale) and produced waves of up to 10 meters. The epicenter of the earthquake was situated in front to the cost of Honshu.
After the earthquake, there was an alert of tsunami for many countries among others, New Zealand, Australia, Russia, Indonesia, United Stated, Hawaii, Taiwan and South America, included Chile.
This event affected many places of Japan, leaving about 9.523 people dead and 16.094 missing people. However, the most important event was the one that occurred in the nuclear power plant of Fukushima. In this place, there was a leak of radioactive nuclear material that has generated an alarm for all people of the affected area. Authorities have evacuated more than 51 thousand people in a 10 km radius of the reactor.
Before Fukushima, Chernobyl was considered the nuclear accident more severe and one of the main environmental disaster of the history. But today, the Japanese tragedy has generated a big discussion of the use of nuclear energy.
